Adding a touch of gold

So, I've been knitting my ROPE necklaces for a while now and have finally perfected (in my opinion) the best gauge of fine silver wire to use - 0.4mm diameter - in case you're wondering (and yes, I need to wear thimbles on every finger and thumb to prevent blisters)! Up till now I've been knitting exclusively in silver as gold is so expensive, especially in the quantities I'll require, but recently I have finally bitten the bullet and started experimenting with 9 carat yellow and rose gold wires. Not as soft as 18 carat gold but a lot less pricey, the results are my two new ethKNIT necklaces which I'm really pleased with!

"Why the name ethKNIT?" you may ask. During my research last year (at the V&A library), I came across a wonderful book called Fashion Jewellery Made in Italy by Deanna Farneti Cera (2013), which features Missoni's ETNO collection (1990). Here were the colour combinations and patterns I was trying to create in precious metal wire - it felt like I could finally giving myself 'permission' to go ahead and give it a try. So, as a homage to Missoni, I've named the collection ethnic + KNIT = ethKNIT. Geddit?
